Vista Seekers

We have a great lineup of hikes planned for 2026, with something for every hiking level. Several hikes are part of the White Squirrel Hiking Challenge. If you are interested in participating, you can join the Challenge by becoming a member of Conserving Carolina. After completing the required hikes, you will earn a White Squirrel patch for your daypack!

All individuals on the Vista Seekers email list should have received two emails since our recent hiking meeting, including one that lists the hikes and designated hike leaders for the year. If you would like to sign up for Vista Seekers email updates, please contact Nancy at nancyalicenelson@gmail.com.

Stay Informed: Please read all Vista Seekers emails to stay up to date with the latest information about hikes, including any changes to scheduled dates.

February Hike – Upper Boulders Hike

Date: Wednesday February 25th (Rain date Friday February 27th)
Location: Meet at Buffalo Creek Park parking area (2191 Buffalo Creek Rd Lake Lure)
or Buffalo Creek Parking behind the gate at Rumbling Bald (can carpool from Legends)
Time: 10:00am

The Upper Boulders hike at Buffalo Creek park has been redesigned to get around damage from Hurricane Helene. It is a nearly 5-mile hike with 1,000 ft in elevation and is considered moderate by All Trails— plan on 4 hours—you can eat a packed lunch at the top.

We will walk from the parking areas and meet at the trailhead around 10:20am – 10:30am. Hiking sticks may be helpful. There are water crossings stepping on rocks and a bridge consisting of long boards with no handrails. Some scrambling and maneuvering over downed trees may be required. You will see a small waterfall, nice scenery, and cool boulders (and a lot of Hurricane Helene damage). Dogs are welcome.

So we know who to contact in case of inclement weather, please RSVP by February 23 to: Carla Lemmons at Carlalemmons1@gmail.com
